The idea for Winfield Swim Club started all the way back in August of 1963. That summer a water carnival took place containing a competitive swim team, synchronized swimming production & diving exhibitions.
By May 26, 1964, an organization meeting for a competitive swimming and diving group took place in the Red Cross Office. It was open to all swimmers from 6 to 20. Tom Herlocker, Jerry Newland, and Norman Albright were the instructors, and group membership was free to those who qualified by swimming across the pool and back. On June 1, they had their first class, and the first meet was held at Winfield’s pool on Tuesday, June 30, 1964. Three other meets took place that year.
Throughout the years, Winfield Swim Club has continued to expand and has now existed for 53 years as a summer swimming league.
